The development bolsters the local sewer, electrical, and storm-water infrastructure and adds compact, transit-oriented housing. Facing the Alkali Flat/La Valentina light-rail platform, the building takes a strong stance along the rail line, balancing security and porosity with private balconies, an outdoor lobby and stair tower, and open-air bridges that create transparency throughout the site.
The high-density housing tops service and retail spaces that open onto the landscaped sidewalk and entry plaza. Like many Sacramento blocks, the lot was severed at the center by an alley, which is bridged by the elevated walkways connecting the building wings. The alley is transformed into a play area, and doubles as access for emergency vehicles. To maximize natural ventilation and daylight, apartments have private recessed balconies and open onto breezeway halls linked by a green stair tower.
