Sierra Gardens

Walnut Creek CA | In Design

With a design inspired by the nearby Mount Diablo foothills, Sierra Garden brings 86 affordable homes to a neighborhood that is walkable to downtown Walnut Creek.

This affordable, multifamily project by Satellite Affordable Housing Associates uses SB330 and the AB1287 Density Bonus legislation to speed provision of new homes. This project will spur reinvigoration of the neighborhood.

The six-story, all-electric building will include sun shades to reduce heat gain, daylit exterior corridors to help reduce HVAC and lighting loads, and solar PV panels to supplement power. Amenities include numerous outdoor spaces, such as resident garden beds, preservation of an existing swimming pool, and a tot lot adjacent to the common laundry and community rooms. The landscaping includes native and low-water species.

There will be a total of 86 affordable homes plus a manager unit on site; there will be 58 parking spaces and 88 bicycle storage spaces on the site.

The project is close to a multi-use trail network as well as bus lines connecting to the Walnut Creek Bay Area Regional Transit (BART) station. The infill effort focused on affordability and livable density secured unanimous approval from the Walnut Creek Planning Commission.
