Johnny Doughnuts

San Francisco CA | Completed

2018

Johnny Doughnuts is the artisan shop’s flagship factory and outpost in San Francisco.

Johnny Doughnuts is a doughnut shop and bakery that makes handmade, small batch doughnuts in the heart of Hayes Valley. This San Francisco flagship outlet will join their original San Rafael location and fleet of food trucks. DBA is also designing the next Johnny Doughnuts venture in the Marin Country Mart.

Located in the corner retail space at DBA’s 388 Fulton, a compact micro-studio building, the Hayes Valley shop design draws from the simple and clean identity of the Johnny Doughnuts brand and refines that aesthetic with delicate details and rich materials.

The sophisticated black and white color palette, elicited from the dramatically tiled building facade, is balanced by textured concrete and Anigre wood panels that provide warmth to the space. Two sets of large wooden doors open the dining space to the streetscape plaza, allowing patrons to enjoy the city along with their doughnuts.

The design includes a commercial kitchen, service counter, dining area, outdoor streetscape plaza, and a loading zone for their fleet of food trucks.

The kitchen will be completely open to the dining area and also visible from the street through large storefront windows to showcase the process of making doughnuts.
