Clock Tower Lofts

San Francisco CA | Completed

1992

This historic concrete, brick, and timber structure was renovated into 127 live-work lofts—a rich variety of unique unit types anticipating home offices and digital commutes.

An amalgamation of four phases of construction in timber, masonry and concrete with a 15-story steel clock tower, the re-use project provided the opportunity to create the environment of a “district”—versus and apartment building—resulting in a rich variety of unique interiors; no two units are alike.

The lofts are arranged around three landscaped courtyards that were cut from the volume of the existing building. These courtyards and other public spaces are enhanced by custom stairs, curving mahogany entry doors, sculptural entry lighting and signage fixtures, and colored concrete fountains, all products of design collaboration with local artisans.
