The “Livable Density” Bike Tour

Wednesday, September 14

Hop on your bicycles, scooters, or BayWheels to tour some recent high-density, mixed-income, mixed-use developments with David Baker, FAIA, and the DBA team.

We’ll visit Mason on Mariposa, Potrero 1010, and 855 Brannan—market-rate communities that integrate new homes and businesses, provide public open space, promote neighborhood connectivity, and bring sensitive density to the Potrero Hill and SOMA neighborhoods. We’ll finish the tour at Five88, workforce housing in Mission Bay, adjacent to SPARK Social SF—a perfect place to grab a quick lunch.

This relatively flat 3-mile bike ride will include property visits with the project architects.

Tour Tahanan Supportive Apartments: Modular Affordable Housing

September 16 | 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

In the SOMA district of San Francisco, Tahanan Supportive Housing provides permanent studio homes for adults who have experienced homelessness in the city. This is the prototype of what is hoped to model a new financing structure for permanent supportive housing—expediting the development process, making it more efficient, and reducing cost by jumpstarting construction using philanthropic funding.

Located within the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural District, the building name is a Tagalog word which evokes “coming home” or “return home,” and represents a place for people to return to rest.

Architects Daniel Simons and Jonas Weber will walk guests through the design, development, and construction processes and lead a guided tour of the property.
