Architect or Archcitectural Designer (5-10 years' experience)

NOTE: this position is open to candidates for both the Bay Area and Birmingham, Alabama offices.

We are seeking a talented, collaborative licensed architect or architectural designer to joing us in Birmingham or San Francisco. Experience in multifamily housing design and sustainable design is not required, but is a plus.

We are seeking candidates with:

  • 5-10 years professional experience
  • Proven track record of fully managing at least one project, ideally from start to completion, including managing staff, consultant teams and client relationships
  • A strong technical command of how buidlings come together and sucessfull experience with the building permitting process
  • Experience or interest in with multifamily housing design
  • Experience or interest in public interest design
  • Strong design skills
  • Strong graphic skills, including hand-sketching skills
  • Working knowledge of Revit

This is a full-time position. We are interested in candidates for both our San Francisco, California office and our Birmingham, Alabama office. Our offices are extremely collaborative - project teams may include individuals from any office. At the moment, the majority of our employees are still working remotely. We are transitioning into a hybrid in-person / remote work model, as public health guidelines allow.

Graphic Designer (2+ years' experience)

We are seeking a full-time Graphic Designer to work flexibly as part of our growing in-house Communications team (Communications Director, Communications Coordinator, part-time Graphic Designer) and Firm Leadership in a range of marketing- and business-development areas as well as some architectural/enviornmental graphics. 

Please apply if you feel you are a skilled designer with a good eye, are interested in architecture and/or issues of housing and public space, and would like to work flexibly as part of a collaborative, mission-driven firm.

NOTE: The full-time position is remote for now, supporting an office based in San Francisco.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce a range of print, digital, and web-based graphics and documents, including proposals (RFPs and RFQs), award submittals, marketing collateral, graphic templates, social media graphics, presentations, display boards, information graphics, and promotional materials
  • Support Communications Director and act as a resource to staff for graphic design needs
  • Provide continuity and manage workflow with part-time staff Graphic Designer
  • Provide graphic support for architectural renderings and presentation plans Prepare and package final, press-ready mechanical files for print and digital
  • Maintain and manage marketing collateral (resumes, project cut sheets, qualifications)
  • Collaborate on environmental graphics and wayfinding design (building signage etc)
  • Collaborate on in-house video production
  • Image retouching
  • Help manage, update, and maintain dynamic website content
  • Help manage/organize/maintain digital assets

 

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • 2 years of professional experience in Graphic Design
  • Bachelor degree in Graphic Design or related field
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Excellent design, typographic, and layout skills and sensibility
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with an eye for accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment while producing high quality work
  • Effectiveness in visual communication, including hand-sketching skills
  • Solid understanding of visual and branding concepts and their application to, relationship with, and integration into the built environment
  • Outstanding organizational, project management, file-organization, and archiving skills
  • Strong professional references

Preferred

  • Interest in issues of housing, community, social justice, and architecture
  • Experience/interest in website management (CMS)
  • Experience in the A/E/C industry
  • Experience with basic photography and videography
  • 3D visualization experience is a plus

Administrative Bookkeeper 

We are seeking a proactive, committed, and organized Administrative Bookkeeper to join our friendly collaborative office.  

NOTE: The full-time position is in-person in our San Francisco.  

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of our Financial Manager, the Administrative Bookkeeper is responsible for administrative activities of the company. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Accounts Payable
  • Accounts Receivable, collections and other assistance
  • Processing employee expense reports
  • Credit card statement reconciliation
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Assisting with payroll and benefits for 50+ employees
  • 1099s
  • Other special projects, general clerical, and light bookkeeping duties

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • High school diploma of equivalent (GED)
  • Three years of verifiable professional bookkeeping experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications, including Excel or Google Sheets
  • Data entry skills
  • Strong multi-tasking and time-management capabilities
  • Excellent organizational skills (filing systems, record keeping, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong references

Preferred

  • Experience working with Deltek accounting software

Compensation: $25.00-$31.25 per hour

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Studio Manager 

David Baker Architects (DBA) is looking for an ambitious, organized and talented individual to join our growing Birmingham team. DBA is a socially oriented architecture and urban planning firm, nationally recognized for creating thoughtful housing, commercial spaces, and urban environments that allow communities to thrive. Since 2016, our Birmingham studio has led our growth in the Southeast. The studio manager position manages day-to-day studio operations, supports our Birmingham-based principal Amanda Loper [link], and contributes to marketing, communications and administrative initiatives led by our San Francisco-based team. If you have 2-3 years of office experience, a gift for organizing things and people, and a can-do spirit, then this could be the role for you.

Responsibilities:

Executive Support:

  • Assist with managing schedule and communications

Qualifications:
