DBA_SFO Operations Manager 

 

We are looking for a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented person to manage our growing San Francisco office. The ideal candidate is an energetic individual who demonstrates both patience and tenacity and is able to become a critical member of our team. 

The Operations Manager position handles day-to-day operations for our physical San Francisco office. This position also supports San Francisco-based principal Pedram Farashbandi and other Bay Area Principals as needed in an administrative capacity, coordinates various firm initiatives, and manages special projects. 

Responsibilities include

Operations Management:

  • organizing company events
  • scheduling and support for meetings
  • coordinating services with outside consultants and vendors
  • ordering supplies and complete out of office tasks
  • handling correspondence and financial records
  • interfacing with finance department and operations managers across multiple offices
  • serving as the initial point of contact for the San Francisco office

 

Executive Support:

  • Assisting with managing schedules and communications
  • Prioritizing incoming emails and phone calls
  • Coordinating travel
  • Managing expense reports
  • Coordinating timesheets and timekeeping
  • Managing updates to professional licensure and certifications

Required

  • 2-3 years of administration experience or functional equivalent
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and spoken communications
  • Ability to effectively manage diverse assignments
  • Comfort with office technology

Preferred

  • An interest in architecture, community development, and cities
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace
     

Our offices are extremely collaborative, and project teams may include individuals from any office. Currently, the majority of our employees are working remotely. We are transitionin into a hybrid in-person/remote work model, as public health guidelines allow. However, this positioin requires an in-person presence in our San Francisco office.

Construction Administrator  (10+ years experience)

We are seeking a talented and engaged licensed architect to join us in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position offers a great opportunity to bring multiple projects to fruition and to work with highly engaged colleagues committed to being a “multiplier of good”—doing work that creates a ripple outward of positive effects. Experience in multifamily housing design and sustainable design is a plus.

 

Qualifications 

Minimum

  • 10 years professional experience
  • Bachelor degree in architecture
  • Licensed Architect (California preferred)
  • Construction Administration experience
  • Revit experience
  • Strong professional reference

Preferred

  • LEED AP or GA
  • Multifamily residential experience
  • Wood framing, metal framing, and concrete structure experience
  • California Building Code experience
  • Writing AMMRs to AHJ
  • Navisworks/BIM coordination experience

Ideal

  • SF MOD experience
  • Modular building experience
  • Heavy Timber experience
  • Previous work in Bay Area jurisdictions


Responsibilities 

Construction Projects

  • Participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor weekly meetings
  • Perform site visits and produce field observation reports
  • Manage communication and revisions as part of the CA process
  • Negotiate code interpretations with authorities having jurisdiction, as needed
  • Advocate throughout for great design/preservation of building design intent

Staff Support

  • Serve as technical resource for project teams
  • Perform technical review of drawing sets
  • Provide consistent clear feedback to staff to continually improve QA/QC for the firm

Site visits to projects will average once a week (days of the week and number of projects will vary).This is a full-time position based in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the moment, the majority of our employees are working part time in-person and part-time remotely. The ability to join teams at the office or on site periodically is strongly preferred. We plan to support a hybrid in-person/remote model indefinitely.

Urban Studio Lead

DBA's Urban Design Studio provides a unique opportunity to work at both the urban and architectural scale. The Urban Studio Lead is a strategic leader, with ownership for the development and growth of DBA_Urban. This includes leading projects through all stages, developing new and existing clients, preparing and presenting proposal for projects, and mentoring junior team members. The incumbent will have a background in both architecture and urban design, be well-versed in housing rules of thumb, and be comfortable leading projects as the primary client point of contace. This role will develop strategies for our urban-scale work, and work may extend to the architectural scale that arises from our urban design and planning work. DBA doesn't just plan neighborhoods—we often design the buildings within them. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as project manager and main point of contact for all urban design projects, managing projects from inception through conclusion
  • Lead complex negotiations with clients, contractors and community groups, and deliver proposal presentations at formal design reviews
  • Conduct site and neighborhood analysis, test fits, and vision planning
  • Facilitate project kickoff, and manage timelines throughout all phases of the project
  • Plan and lead community meetings
  • Sketch initial site plan with Principal input for all projects
  • Coordinate with urban designer throughout the production process
  • Evaluate all prospective urban design projects for feasibility
  • Conduct zoning analysis and execute land use and urban design evaluation to identify development project opportunities
  • Ensure adherence to relevant local, regional, state, and/or federal regulations, as well as DBA design requirements
  • Prepare planning studies and varied technical information
  • Prepare design guidelines for open space, building form, project review and site planning.
  • Prepare site layouts as well as land subdivision plans for industrial, residential, tourist, and mixed use developments.
  • Perform site plus context evaluation and identify opportunities along with constraints to maximize good urban design potential.
  • Mentor and coach team members on urban planning concepts, standards, and design
  • Share and speak on behalf of DBA and/or clients at public meetings or conferences
  • Develop and present plans to partners, decision makers, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Drive business development opportunities

Qualifications

Minimum

  • 8 years of professional experience in Architecture and/or Urban Design
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Urban Design, or Architecture
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in urban design planning, including a track record of shaping, directing and delivering large scale projects
  • Experience leading a multi-faceted team, including mentoring and coaching junior team members as needed
  • Multifamily Housing experience, especially with affordable housing communities
  • Skilled in business development
  • Strong design skills and graphic sensibility
  • Effectiveness in visual communication, including both internal and external communication
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, and comfortable with representing the public face of DBA_Urban
  • Ability to work autonomously and drive projects to completion
  • Revit Experience
  • Zoning analysis experience
  • Actively involved in ULI, AIA and APA, and maintains current knowledge of trends, laws, and regulations in the industry

Preferred

  • Masters degree in Urban Design
  • Project tracking and fee proposal experience
  • Hand-sketching skills
  • Previous work in Bay Area jurisdictions
  • Strong Adobe Suite skills
