The GreenPoint Showcase Tour on October 4 gives you the chance to visit two of DB+P's Oakland projects as well as a wide range of sustainably built homes around the Bay Area. Sponsored by Build It Green and KTVU Channel 2, the self-guided tour runs all day this Sunday.
Ironhorse Family Apartments, the only affordable multi-family home on the tour, has nearly completed construction. When done, it will provide 99 apartments for families earning up to 50 percent of area median income. Ironhorse incorporates many complementary sustainable materials and techniques, such as photoelectric energy generation, bay-friendly plantings, and a vegetated green roof. The adjacent roadway, 14th Street, has been fully reconstructed to include a traffic-calming pocket park and pedestrian amenities.
Connected to Ironhorse Family Apartments via a public pedestrian pathway, neighboring Pacific Cannery Lofts offers market-rate live+work loft spaces and townhouses configured around a historic cannery.
These two developments stand at the hub of Central Station, a reintegration of 29 acres of unused industrial land into the surrounding residential neighborhood.
