As an urban experiment, peepSHOW v1 was installed for three days during the first annual Market Street Prototyping Festival (MSPF) in April 2015. Conceived as an "urban viewing station", it drew inspiration from scenic viewpoints and bird-watching stations, but turned the gaze to the complexity of the urban streetscape.
peepSHOW 1.0 was our first prototype. We worked hard to create the piece, designing and fabricating it in-house, and learning new techniques. Following the Festival weekend, peepSHOW was selected for a prototype incubator program, with the goal of further developing the concept for semi-permanent installation—up to two years—on Market Street.
In collaboration with the Market Street Prototyping team, Gray Area Foundation for the Arts, and Autodesk, we are now part of the Urban Prototyping Research Lab, a 6-month iterative research-and-development program to create peepSHOW 2.0, which will be installed on Market Street for up to two years.
