A new mixed-use development in San Francisco’s Design District, 855 Brannan brings 434 apartments plus 21 flex lofts to the developing neighborhood. Designed by David Baker Architects and developed by Equity Residential, the sustainable community is centered on a large courtyard with a serene urban redwood grove at its heart.
Two landscaped public mid-block passages break up the large scale and create connections, while a transformed pedestrian frontage along Brannan Street offers widened sidewalks, mature palm trees, and 16,000 square feet of neighborhood-serving retail.
Along Brannan Street, facades clad with weathering and galvanized steel reference the industrial history of the area. Wood salvaged and restored from the site’s previous use—a former train depot—lends a sense of warmth and character to the extensive amenity spaces.
