We teamed up with CCS Architecture to create Slow on the Go, an open-air area of local vendors cooking and serving up "slow fast food" in Civic Center Plaza. Slow on the Go and the Marketplace—an area offering tastes of foods that meet with Slow Food's "good, clean, fair" philosophy—flanked the Victory Garden in front of City Hall. The garden will remain in place through November. Our 14 vendor booths featured street food—small sweet and savory items that you eat as you stroll.

The Civic Center was overflowing all weekend. People were very happy with both the farmers market and the food booths. Even though lines were long, they moved fast and spirits remained high. A much overheard sentiment about Civic Center Plaza that weekend: "I wish it could always be like this!" A book featuring the designers and the designs of Slow Food Nation is in the works.

Materials Path

Scaffolding: Rented and returned

Eucalyptus planks: Borrowed, returned to Evan Schively to be milled into lumber

Straw bales: Donated to Clancy's Pumpkin Farm in San Francisco to be used in seasonal displays and then scattered on next year's pumpkin patch.

Flame-retardant muslin tarps: Donated to local production shop Scene2 to be used as scenic backdrops

Signs: Returned to the DB+P woodshop to be repurposed into Park(ing) Day signage

Canopy: Donated to local maker Jenny Hurth to be made into reusable shopping totes. Soon to be for sale through the Slow Food Nation website.
