This high-density design brings more than 70,000 square feet of affordable housing to West Oakland without sacrificing neighborhood scale. The local community informed the design throughout, and entrances, porches, and courtyards, connect the project with the surrounding streets.
Community involvement occurred throughout the design and construction process. Multiple community meetings were held during each stage of design, with brainstorming sessions, community liaisons, and direct feedback from neighbors and residents.
Relationships were maintained with all preexisting residents to ensure active participation in the design, and offer first placement in the new project.
All units access multiple courtyards that bring light, air, and a place for community interaction to the center of the building, and street-side entrances that connect to and enliven the surrounding neighborhood.
