peepSHOW is an urban viewing station that focuses the gaze and thoughts of a passersby onto obscure or concealed street scenes. Creating moments for the user to contemplate his or her surroundings, peepSHOW acts to spur discussion and create shared experience. The structure builds on the notion of a nature-lover’s viewing station (birding platform, scenic overlook) but centers this action in a dense city context, allowing for the contemplation of the urban environment.

peepSHOW was created as part of the original Market Street Prototyping Festival, a three-day event that explored playful interactive improvements to one of San Francisco's main corridors. Over the course of the three-day festival, peepSHOW proved itself to be an object of intrigue and beauty, a catalyst for cooperation and conversation, a place to pause and ponder, a cultural cross-section-izer, a giant selfie machine—and more.

peepSHOW Origin Story: The first glimmerings of peepSHOW were a response to a call for submissions to the first Market Street Prototyping Festival. Take a look here for the initial thoughts and evolution of the project that resulted in the peepSHOW project that was exhibited in the MSPF on April 9-11, 2015.

peepSHOW appeared in a second iteration—The Chrome Cavern—for the duration of September 2015 at Storefrontlab and as part of the AIASF's Architecture + the City Festival, themed "Play: Design in Action." The sculptural structure, re-cast as an interior space, hosted events ranging from readings to workshops, panels to parties.
